Last-Mile COVID-19 Vaccination in Central Java

The Australian Government through the Australia Indonesia Health Security Partnership (AIHSP) aims to support the Indonesian Government in improving vaccination coverage‒especially among vulnerable groups‒and their risk awareness to increase the vaccine uptake and preventive measures. AIHSP responds with an initiative called the Last-Mile COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Project. The Last-Mile COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery initiative aims to accelerate vaccination coverage of vulnerable groups in each AIHSP working area‒Central Java, Yogyakarta, Bali, and South Sulawesi‒by adapting to local needs and their concerns in accessing COVID-19 vaccines. The pilot phase ran from April to September 2022 in two provinces and involved two implementing partners: the Indonesian Red Cross (Palang Merah Indonesia: PMI) in 9 districts in Central Java and the Public Health Department of the Faculty of Public Health (Ilmu Kesehatan Masyarakat Ilmu Kedokteraan Komunitas: IKM-IKK) of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) in Maros District in South Sulawesi. By August 2022, these two partnerships had vaccinated 182,610 people against COVID-19. During the visit in May and September 2022 to several locations in Central Java (Pekalongan, Magelang, Pati, and Cilacap District), we captured some of the outreach activities. © All photos are taken by Yusuf Ahmad, and digitally preserved under the license of the Australia Indonesia Health Security Partnership (AIHSP) a DFAT-funded project managed by DT Global.
