"Bitten by a Dog? Is It Dangerous?"

The recent outbreak of rabies on Timor Island has become a significant concern for many, particularly for our friends in Timor regions such as TTS, TTU, Belu, Malaka, and even Timor Leste. Rabies is a deadly disease that spreads to humans through the bites of rabies-carrying animals, particularly dogs, attacking the brain.

To tackle this issue, effective Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) must be rapidly delivered to all population sectors. One impactful approach is through digital activation by local influencers. AIHSP, in collaboration with local influencer KABOAX, is raising public awareness through engaging YouTube content about rabies.

The first episode informs that the disease can be prevented with two simple steps. First, regularly vaccinate your dogs! Free dog vaccinations are available at your local veterinary clinic or livestock service office. Second, avoid being bitten or licked by a dog if you have an open wound. If you do get bitten, immediately wash the wound under running water with soap or detergent for 15 minutes and report the bite to the nearest health centre or hospital to get an anti-rabies vaccine.

Quick and proper prevention and treatment are key to avoiding death from rabies. Let’s STOP rabies in NTT!
