Training of Trainers Risk Communication for Three Provinces (Phase I) in Collaboration with Bapelkes Semarang
Risk communication is the practice of exchanging information and opinions to effectively manage risk. This exchange occurs continuously, both directly and indirectly. Together, Bapelkes and AIHSP conduct comprehensive risk communication training sessions at 1 – 3 April 2024. This Risk Communication Training was attended by cross-sector participants, including from health and agriculture as well as from 3 provinces: Central Java Province, Special Region of Yogyakarta, and East Nusa Tenggara.
The Training of Trainers (TOT) on Risk Communication from the 3 provinces was a collaboration aiming to improve the skills and knowledge of health workers. The program aims to raise awareness among health workers on how to identify, assess and communicate potential health risks.
Participants were encouraged to learn independently using an MOOC (massive open online course) platform provided by Bapelkes. Participants completed their own learning journals to ensure their understanding of the material from the module, and were given opportunities to practise the information and knowledge they gained. Tarsisius Jelalu, SKM, M. Kes, a participant from the East Nusa Tenggara Health Office, was impressed at the challenges posed by real-life cases presented in the Table Top Exercise technique. “This technique pushed participants to confront authentic scenarios they might encounter in the field.”
Risk communication is crucial, especially in the field of health. Meidyan Thomas S., SKM emphasised that it can help anticipate all risks that could potentially arise in the future. Implementing risk communication helps maintain trust, provide education, build understanding and anticipate potential future risks. This Risk Communication Training represents a significant breakthrough, highlighted by Rasa Harbakti, SKM, M. Kes said, “Thanks to AIHSP, this TOT Training on Cross Sector Risk Communication from 3 Provinces is not just good — it’s excellent.”
