Overview
The AIHSP is a 5-year program (2020–2025) designed to increase national health security in Indonesia.
Announced by Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo and Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison in February 2020, this important strategic partnership aims to:
- strengthen the systems in Indonesia that prevent, detect, and respond to public and animal health emergencies resulting from emerging infectious diseases
- improve coordination of responses to national, regional, and global health threats.
Supported by the Australian Government and implemented by DT Global, the AIHSP has been established as a One Health program that embraces human, animal, and wildlife health issues in Indonesia.
Since its commencement in February 2020, the program has operated both nationally and in selected provinces, supporting Indonesia's immediate COVID-19 response as well as longer-term reforms to the country’s health systems.
The AIHSP’s initial areas of focus have included:
- diseases surveillance systems, both for animals and for people
- laboratory capacity and coordination
- data management within the Ministry of Health
- health emergency preparedness and response systems
- assessment of training needs and preparation of training materials
- public health communications related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
